Sunduka, is a play on the Swahili word for shop (duka). We provide weak and off grid solutions with reusable shipping containers for developing community needs.

Our Vision

By designing and building with upcycled shipping containers and equipping them with photovoltaic and solar thermic solutions we create cost-effective safe clean spaces for communities, individuals or organizations. The containers are built together with the communities on site. With this approach we want to facilitate urban and rural communities with tools to change their livelihoods.

We aim to provide practical skills development for everyday living, to build sustainable safe and structured environments for businesses, to create social connections and support networks for the improvement of livelihoods with community participation across Africa and the world.

About Sunduka

Sunduka works with solar powered containers as shops, offices, butcher shops, dairy production, mobile clinics etc with weak and off grid power solutions. They cater to low cost socially responsible and purpose-driven projects using locally sourced reusable shipping containers.

Our containers will be light tower projects for communities in both rural and urban areas. They will be built together with these communities on site. Our goal is to create as much as possible of the value chain in their final place of use.

Sunduka delivers practical and relevant enterprise skills (with opportunities for co-design), independent living skills for sustained health and safety, and an environment for learning, social connection and support networks.
